According to Mehr News Agency, the flight is scheduled for 2 p.m. local time and the ticket price for this flight is 2.4 million rials ($21.05).

The passenger terminal of Payam International Airport was officially launched on Sept. 14, 2018, after Taban Airline’s MD88 operated a maiden flight from Mashhad to Karaj. 

The airport became the first passenger airport in Alborz Province, one of the most populated provinces of Iran, according to Financial Tribune.

However, the airport stopped operating passenger flights after a Boeing 707 cargo plane crashed on Jan. 14, 2019, as it skidded off the runway during an emergency landing at Fath Airport in Iran's Alborz Province.

The aircraft, owned by the Iranian Army and carrying meat from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, was scheduled to land at Payam International Airport, Army Spokesman Amir Taqikhani told state TV.

Fifteen people on board were killed and only one person on board the plane survived.

The plane hit a wall of the residential area located at the end of the runway, causing considerable damage to three buildings. No one was inside the buildings at the time of the accident, the head of a local fire department told reporters.

Payam Airport was established in 1997 as a cargo-only airport. The increasing population of Alborz Province prompted authorities to devise plans to develop a passenger terminal for the airport.

The airport is located at the heart of Payam Special Economic Zone, an area owned by Iran’s Ministry of Information and Communications Technology.
