Iran, Turkey in talks to launch Tehran-Istanbul railway

Tehran (ISNA) – Iran Railways CEO, Saeid Rasouli said Tehran-Istanbul railway will be launched in the near future.

Rail transport area is one of the most important subdivisions of developing international transport. During recent six months, Tehran-Ankara and Tehran-Van railways have been launched which was considerably welcomed by passengers, according to railway officials and travel agencies.

“International transport development in both freight and passenger area is of Iran Railways priorities,” Rasouli told ISNA.

“We are in talks to launch Tehran- Istanbul railway. My colleagues in passenger transport area are in talks with Turkish Railways,” he added.

Pointing to the positive prospect of development in railways between Iran, Turkey and other countries, the official said, “Currently we can’t specify a date for launching Tehran-Istanbul railway and we should wait for the beginning of the project”.
