Sokhoi Superjet 100 to land in Tehran on Monday
Tehran,
Feb 11, IRNA – A Sukhoi Superjet 100 along with the engineers team will land in
Tehran's Mehrabad airport on Monday, an official of the Civil Aviation
Organization of Islamic Republic of Iran (CAO.IRI) said.
Head of Public Relations Department
of CAO.IRI Reza Jafarzadeh said on Sunday, adding that Iranian airliners are
investigating different choices to upgrade their air fleet.
Sokhoi Superjet 100 is a passenger plane with 100 seats, suitable for regional
flights.
Russia's Energy Minister Alexander Novak said in November 2016 that his country
is willing to sell the plane to Iran. He said that the deal is aimed at
boosting bilateral trade and economic relations.
After signing the historic nuclear deal between Iran and the world major
powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in 2015,
buying planes to modernize its air fleet became possible.
Iranian airliners during the past two years have forged deals with western aerospace
giants Airbus, Boeing and ATR. A number of the planes have joined Iran's fleet
but it was reported in western media that the full implementation of the deals
might face challenges due to anti-JCPOA stance of Washington.
