Japanese firms interested to use Astara-Astara railway

Feb 6, IRNA – Japan embassy economic attaché in Azerbaijan Republic Toshihiro
Katagiri said on Tuesday that the Japanese firms and businessmen have a great
deal of interest in using Astara-Astara railway to promote their business.
He said that by completion of this
railway a lot of goods will be transferred from Iran to Russia and vice versa.
Japan embassy political attaché in Iran Masamichi Saito said Astara-Astara
railway would have a great economic influence on the countries of the region,
especially Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan Republic.
Azerbaijan Republic and Islamic Republic of Iran in early months of the year
2017 agree to connect railway between the two countries in order to develop
economic cooperation.
Azerbaijan Republic constructed 8.5 kilometers railway and reached to Iran's
border in Astara.
Astara Port is located in west of Gilan province and has 38 kilometers of land
border and 15 kilometers of water border with Azerbaijan Republic and its
customs office is very active for import and export.
