London's 'first boutique hotel' celebrates anniversary with £40-a-night offer

Blakes Hotel in South Kensington is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

To mark its 40th anniversary this month, London's 'first boutique hotel' is offering 40 rooms for the vastly reduced rate of £40 a night – a discount of 84 per cent.

The celebrated Blakes Hotel in South Kensington, styled by renowned British designer Anouska Hempel, normally charges upwards of £255 for a night in one of its 45 eclectically styled Parisian Doubles.

The celebratory offer starts on January 8 2018 and will last until the end of the month, with bookings available on a first come, first served basis.

Opened in 1978, The townhouse in South Kensington was one of the first boutique, or 'couture', hotels in the world, and certainly the first of its kind in the capital, with a theatrical style differing from one room to the next.

Thanks to its exuberant look, the hotel has garnered a reputation as one of London's most glamorous hotels, and is a firm favourite amongst a group of celebrity admirers that includes the likes of Kate Moss, Leonardo DiCaprio, the Beckhams and Quentin Tarantino.

Inspirations for the bedroom décor range from Provençal to Asian Colonial, while the hotel's restaurant channels Art Deco opulence, designed by Hempel to resemble an ‘old-fashioned steamer sailing up the Bosphorus’.

The courtyard garden (the hotel is one of just a handful in London to have one) was designed by Matthew Williamson and comes complete with an oversized birdcage which, aside from looking decorative, also serves as a private dining area.

The hotel is located at 33 Roland Gardens in South Kensington, just a 15-minute walk from Exhibition Road, where you can find the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and the V&A Musuem.

To book the Blakes Hotel 40 at £40 offer, call 020 7370 6701 or emailing reservations@blakeshotels.com, between 9am to 5pm on Monday to Friday.
