Chogha Zanbil: Khuzestan’s ancient ziggurat



Tehran (ISNA) – Shush City of Khuzestan Province is a city in which there is one of the most important historical sites of Iran, which is Chogha Zanbil.

Chogha Zanbil is an ancient construction which has been included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. It was used by the people of Elam civilization, one of the oldest civilizations in the world, for worshipping.

People of Elam used a special kind of architecture for building it which was like the building of pyramids. Chogha Zanbil has been made of bricks and constructions like it were called “ziggurat” generally.

Ziggurats were really important for people who lived at that time and for building them, best materials were used. Nearly 5000 bricks, used in the building of it, have been engraved by Elami writings
