4.1-magnitude quake jolts western Iran



Kermanshah, Jan 6, IRNA - An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale shook suburbs of Tazehabad, Kermanshah province, late on Saturday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 22:49 hours local time on Saturday at the depth of 10 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 46.22 degrees longitude and 34.64 degrees latitude.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damage to property.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.

On November 12, 2017, a fatal 7.3-measuring earthquake hit the provincial city of Salas Babajani killing 620 people and injuring about 12,000 others.
