Iran’s 11-month crude steel production up 17.3%



Tehran, Dec 22, IRNA – Iran produced 22.59 million tons of crude steel in the first 11 months of 2018, indicating a growth of 17.3 percent compared with the figure for the same period of 2017, which was 19.256 million tons.

According to recent statistics released by World Steel Association (WSA), China topped the list of crude steel producers in the period with 857.372 million tons.

India, Japan and the United States with 96.92 million tons, 95.86 million tons and 79.156 million tons respectively ranked second, third and fourth, the report said.

In November, Iran produced two million tons of crude steel — a drop of 3.38 percent against the figure for October, which was 2.07 million tons.

Global steel production in November amounted to 148.617 million tons, showing a decrease of 4.46 percent compared with the figure for October which was 155.565 million tons.
According to the Islamic Republic’s Vision Plan, total steel production capacity is to hit 55 million tons a year by 2025, with an expected exports figure of 10-15 million tons.

The World Steel Association is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. WSA members represent approximately 85 percent of the world’s steel production, including over 150 steel producers with nine of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes.

Its members account for around 85 percent of world steel production.
